Pearl

collapse expand iconDescription

Second-rate gear only makes your drumming journey harder. The Pearl Roadshow is not a toy or a hand-me-down. It's a complete drum set package with everything you need to start your rhythmic journey to the big time. Here are some things to look for when buying your first drum kit; see for yourself how Roadshow stacks up:

The cymbals, hi-hat and snare stands should start with a strong and well-balanced tripod base. Double-braced legs and interlocking tilter adjustments are also vital for keeping all parts of the kit in place under the pressure of performance. Roadshow's included hardware package is second-to-none in its class. All stands are dual-reinforced, height and angle adjustable, and feature double-braced legs to withstand the pounding onslaught of the heavy-hitting drummer.

The snare drum is the voice of the drum set and captures everything from the loudest accents to the softest "ghost" notes. With a matching shell and finish, the Roadshow snare is full of attack and power, yet sensitive enough for drumming at any volume.

The bass drum is the tonal heartbeat of the drum set and should not only set the low-end pulse for the groove, but be a foundation for the rest of the complete drum setup. The Roadshow kick drum features an extended tension/tuning range for low, chest-thumping bass frequencies, and includes locking, slip-free feet (or "spurs") and secure mounting for toms and accessories.

Roadshow's included cymbal set features a 16" brass crash/ride and a set of 14" brass/hybrid hats. Perfect for accents and timekeeping until an upgraded multi-cymbal setup is acquired.

I'm loving this drum kit.

I bought this set to use in recording. I replaced the cymbals, and now I am very pleased with the sound.

Great starter set, definitely has durability issues

So I got this set for my son for his 13 birthday about a year ago. Couple of initial impressions are that this set is incredibly loud, if you haven't been in an enclosed space with a full size drum set with someone playing Nirvana the neighbors will complain:), and it is a fantastic looking set. We debated an electronic drum set but ultimately decided to go with the Roadshow and from a sound standpoint it was the right choice as these sound fantastic. Now to the bad, these have some serious durability issues (I will qualify this statement as my son plays extremely hard for around 1-2 hours a day so wear and tear is to be expected). That being said I've had to replace every drum head, the cymbal, the hi hat, the cymbal/hi hat hardware, and just had to order a new kick pedal. While I recommend this set based on both the sound and look be prepared to either spend more initially on a better set or while upgrading broken parts relatively quickly.

  • These are 6 ply shells not 9 ply.

Buyer beware. The specs say 9 ply shells but the package once you get it states 6 ply shells and i can confirm they are 6 ply shells alright. Other than that lie on GC specs of it its a good basic drum kit for a beginner. The cymbals would need to be upgraded though and the throne is okay. Long story short….this kit is mid.

The first kit and used it for about 4 years, and I would recommend it to beginners. It has a good sound, and the hardware is good but the hi-hat clutch will loosen on its own which is annoying. The throne is not the best. You'll end up needing to replace everything at some point.

  • Pretty decent

This is a good drum set. I've had it for several months and love the sound I get from the drums themselves. Uhh, the cymbals are great for a beginner, but for the skilled, intermediate and advanced drummers it's subpar. The drum throne is terrible though. It's loose about 60 percent of time; I have to keep tightening the chair.

  • False advertising: NOT 9-PLY! As listed. Still a decent kit.

I've been a guitarist for nearly 20 years. Dabbled on multiple instruments and finally decided to get a decent little drum kit. For the money I paid (20% off coupon), this kit is rather nice. Its definitely not a $2000 shell pack but it is great for learning and upgrading as your skills develop. However, these shells ARE NOT 9-ply as stated in the product description. The packaging the kit comes in clearly states 6-ply shells. Being a novice, more ply's was a contributing factor in my purchasing decision.

I absolutely love my Pearl Roadshow. I purchased this drum set about two years ago and play it almost every day for 1 ½ hours. You need to buy cover bags to protect this beautiful set when you travel. You should also augment your drum heads to 2 ply. All of the hardware is of very fine quality except for the throne which broke after 1 ½ years. The cymbals are not very good. But this is actually a benefit. Instead of spending more money on a set with decent cymbals, you choose the cymbal manufacturer that you like when you later improve your set by buying decent high hat, ride, and crash cymbals. Do you like Sabian, Zildjian, Paiste, Meinl, or another brand? Go to YouTube and listen to the various options and choose your cymbals. I am pleased that I chose Paiste, instead of a more expensive kit choosing another cymbal for me.

Does the kit come with 3 toms(hi, mid, and low)? Does it come with a crash and a ride? Is the drum set primarily used for rock or other genres? Is it possible to get an open kick head drum instead of a closed one and would that cost extra?
