Mapex

collapse expand iconDescription

The Mars Series Shell Pack offers 100% Birch, 6-ply and 7.2mm shells with shallow depths complete with the SONIClear bearing edge, producing a fast and clear tone with a quick stick rebound. The SONIClear bearing edge allows for the direct transmission of sound, reduces unwanted frequencies and provides a strong fundamental pitch and an effortless tuning experience especially at lower tunings.

The SONIClear tom suspension and floor tom feet (simiar to the Saturn IV system) increase overall resonance by preserving vibration in the shell and keeping stress away from the tension rods, helping the heads stay in tune. Additionally, the 2-up and 1-down configuration keeps all the toms within easy reach while the extra deep bass drum produces a powerful, yet naturally equalized tone.

Additionally, a matching Mars Snare Drum gives a unified look to the set while providing a solid fundamental crack.

I got this kit to replace the off-brand beginner kit that I've had for about five years and it is awesome. It is the most aesthetically pleasing kit I have seen in real life, there are a couple one that are even more, however saying that I know this kit is not professional/exquisite quality. This kit from other companies would have costed around $1000 dollars but Mapex in my opinion is a really good company to buy from for quality. The SoniClear Bearing Edge with the Evans 360 (I got UV1s for the batter and Reso 7s for the resonant) fits real snug even without the lugs on. After tuning it sounds great. Not like a Saturn but it sounds awesome. I personally like the fast toms and 20" bass. I never however have played a low tom this small before and it sounds really cool. This kit if you are looking for a gigging quality set with a good price tag that sounds great, this is the kit I would most recommend. My only real stink with this is that the kit had two lugs that are somewhat defective and don't turn well: can't finger tighten at all.
