Behind the Design: Meet the GPCE Inception Maple
Martin Guitar Nazareth Factory Tour Part 1
Martin Guitar Nazareth Factory Tour Part 2
Description
Martin Guitars continues their commitment to combine beauty, tone and sustainability with the GPCE Inception. Bringing together a concern for nature and a devotion to great acoustic guitar tone, the Martin GPCE Inception features a unique skeletonized scalloped bracing, internal sonic channels and combines domestically abundant, sustainable tonewoods. This design enhances resonance, clarity and tonal balance, while delivering stunning looks and a welcoming, easy-playing feel.
Advanced Bracing Design
To get the most out of this new generation of tonewood, Martin had to revisit traditional bracing design, which originated to get the desired tones from traditional guitar woods. Since every wood has unique sonic properties, it only makes sense that the GPCE Inception's bracing would be optimized for the woods being used. This new design—a skeletonized honeycomb X-bracing that reduces mass while retaining needed structural support—works with sonic channels inside the body to increase sustain and volume, enhancing tone and dynamic range beyond the average maple acoustic.
Sustainable Tonewoods
With the quest for sustainable tonewoods heating up globally, Martin has been outspoken in their commitment to finding alternatives and relieving the pressure on traditional woods like rosewood and mahogany. The Martin GPCE Inception utilizes maple and black walnut—both abundant and readily available—for back and sides, and a lively, European spruce top that's certified by the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council). These woods, in synergy with Martin's unique skeletonized bracing and interior sonic channels, and the thin finish, are able to speak with a big, warm, clear voice. The eye-catching three-piece back features a black walnut center wedge which adds warmth to the bright snap of maple, creating a full, balanced tone, and helping add projection to the traditional spruce top. Black walnut is also used for the fingerboard, bridge and binding, with maple arrow inlays on the fingerboard, creating an organic, pleasing aesthetic inspired by nature.
Electronics That Sing
For the pickup system of the GPCE Inception, Martin chose the award-winning L.R. Baggs Anthem. Combining a proprietary condenser microphone with the acclaimed Element pickup, this system delivers the warmth and fidelity of a studio-miked guitar in any size venue. The Anthem also features a proprietary mounting system and noise cancellation, which increase its utility for both studio recording and live performance. Providing excellent clarity and balanced frequency response, it ensures that the balanced, natural sound of your Inception will always be loud and clear.
A Body Style Perfect for the Modern Player
With all the care that was put into the interior design, the big question was which body style would best suit the debut of these new design concepts. Martin's choice for the Inception is the popular Grand Performance Cutaway (GPC), which has become one of Martin’s most-desired models and puts a bold exclamation point to Martin's ongoing innovation. The Inception includes a sturdy, molded case to protect your investment in the future.
With uncompromising tone and an equally uncompromising commitment to the future of our planet's forests, the Martin GPCE Inception breaks new ground in acoustic guitar design for the future, with a big, bold sound that underscores why Martin Guitars have been at the forefront of acoustic guitar design and construction since 1833.
