This large work for treble chorus is based on a tale of Hans Christian Andersen, and is not only a journey in the dramatic sense, but also a journey through the possibilities of meter, rhythm, tonality, texture, and timbre. Scored for treble chorus, clarinet, and string bass, the narrative nature of this piece demands excellent diction, and a sense of engaged story-telling. With staging options ranging from very elaborate to non-existent, this work offers many opportunities for a wide range of experiences.
