what the heck
Yeah, a review on a drum key. If you can beleive it, this tool is very useful. Although it does not replace using your ears and tuning your drums (dont think you can get settings from someone and use them for your drums), they do help once you have already found your ideal sound. Tune your drums to your liking, check what settings the dial is at, write them down. Next time you change heads/tune up, get your settings out. Great for gigging drummmers that might need to tune up quickly.

OK, not great. Not a tune cure.
I?ve got one of these and I have used it on a number of different shells. Problem with these mini torque keys (all of them, in my opinion) is that they simply cannot account for any of your drum's rod/lug combinations that bind even a tiny bit. Of course the older a shell is, the more likely it is that one or more rods/lugs on it will put up some extra resistance. The same problem exists when you torque down head bolts on automobiles ? if you don?t thoroughly clean the threads and remove oil and any crud from the bolt hole, you won?t get accurate, consistent torque. With drums, you are working within much smaller hardware venues. And yes, you can clean each lug?s swivel nut threads, and clean the tensions rod, and grease them. But there will still exist slight inconsistencies and stresses that make one or more rods not respond identically to one of these torque keys. That truth makes this tool something you may well find yourself tossing into that small box of extra drum odds and ends and parts, rarely again to think about.

These are nice for getting started in tuning. I use it to get most of the lugs in the same tension and then fine tune by ear. Doesn't work great if the lug threads aren't in good shape or are cheaper since binding will cause differences in tension. This is an issue with lugs not the torque key.
Very handy

I have an old, beat up hunk-of-junk drum kit that needed a lot of help in many ways to get it to sound nice, not the least of which was the tuning. The torque drum key makes it very easy to ensure that each lug around the drum is equally tight. Also #sweepstakes
