Rockman Bass Ace Headphone Amp

I have the original Rockman Bass Amp that I purchased in 1989). This amp is really great when you need to NOT be heard by others. Lightweight, easy to operate, and you can plug music from outside sources to practice. (Such as an iPOD, tape player, etc. You need a 1/4" adaptor and maybe a 1/8" adaptor; both are very inexpensive and can be purchased at almost any electronics store). It can accept both active and passive basses without activating any switches. The Bass Rockman is easy on batteries. I change the 9V battery roughly every two months, considering fifteen hrs. of use per month. You can connect with an AC adaptor to save on batteries. If you need a basic, portable practice amp without effects, this is it ! Get it !

Great for about 35 days

I was happy with the functionality and tone for the first 35 days or so. But the 1/4" input stopped just died in the middle of playing. I could still hear the jam-along track, but not my bass. Disappointing. I did notice that this newer model is quite a bit lighter in weight than the Guitar Ace I had from years earlier. Turns out to be much cheaper construction. Steer clear of this thing.

The mid and treble boost really just adds noise. I would just use it without, and you will get a very clear sound.

  • Not the original but I would reccommend

I guess a pro could get a lot more out of this but for me it works great. I can link music to it and I use my effects pedal chain with no issue. It is not as heavy as the original but for the money it is a great little amp

I bought a set of Sony MDR -7506 Professional headphones with the neodymian magnets. It works perfectly. With the 9v battery in the Rockman and the powerful magnets the sound comes through as warm as you need it with powerful punches both high and low as you demand it. They are also very comfortable on the head and not too bad on over heating your head after longer hours of usage. The headphones that come with the Rockman work well but for more professional sound I wanted a better headphone set so I opted for the Sony MDR-7506 headphones.

  • I bought this with a discount coupon which made it OK.

I have the original, and, this doesnt compare. It's Ok, but it is overpriced for what it is. Headphones are cheap, and the casing could be better, if not metal. Check out the other bass headphone amps first and compare.

  • Great product would buy again

Great product, makes practice easy, I use Bets wired headphones for better sound. Head phones that come with it look cheap. Remember to unplug cables after each use to save battery.

Can this be used with passive basses? I think I read somewhere (years ago) that the bass had to be active. Can't find anything stating that now.

Does will this amp accept standard 1/8in headphones, or will I need to get a 1/8 to 1/4in adapter to go along with it? I'm active duty military stationed in Japan, and I'm really not trying to send my larger equipment out here to worry about when it comes time to transfer back. Thanks!

Yes it will. You can choose headphones of your choice (1/8 jack).
