Legacy& Innovation: 3 Cry Baby

Description
The Dunlop GCB95 Cry Baby Classic Fasel Inductor Wah effects pedal is a heavy-duty stompbox that recreates the lush vocal sweeps and harmonically rich tones that defined the wah sound of the 1960s. By reintroducing Fasel Inductors—key components that shaped the Cry Baby's signature voice for decades—Dunlop has unlocked a pivotal part of electric guitar history. The Cry Baby Classic lets players everywhere experience the wah as Hendrix and Clapton first heard it.
Authentic '60s Tone With Legendary Fasel Inductors
At the heart of the GCB95 Cry Baby Classic are vintage-spec Fasel inductors, handmade in Italy to precise '60s specifications. These inductors were integral to the lush, vocal quality of the original Cry Baby but had been unavailable for years until Dunlop reissued them. The result is a wah tone that transports players back to the Summer of Love, with all the warmth, depth and nuance of the era's most cherished recordings.
Built to Withstand Decades of Stomping
While the Cry Baby Classic revives a vintage sound, its construction is anything but dated. The pedal features a heavy die-cast housing, durable potentiometer and rugged components ready to handle the stomps of today's players. Road-tested and tour-proven, the Cry Baby Classic delivers iconic '60s tone night after night, year after year.
Vintage-Style Potentiometer for Smooth Sweeps
Dialing in vocal-like wah effects requires a sensitive and responsive potentiometer. The GCB95 Cry Baby Classic features a 100 kohm potentiometer—the same value used in the original Cry Baby—for a smooth, gradual sweep range and precise control over tone. Players can conjure up percussive, funky wah sounds or languid, emotive effects with equal ease.
AC Power or Battery—The Choice Is Yours
While the Cry Baby Classic summons up vintage vibe, it offers modern convenience with options for power. Run the pedal off a 9V battery for straightforward setup or connect a Dunlop ECB003 AC adapter (sold separately) for peace of mind during extended sessions or live shows. Either way, iconic wah tone is always at your feet.

Perfect Sound
So like pretty much every other fan of classic or psychedelic rock I needed some wah. So I researched and tested like mad for a couple weeks. Went to the different guitar shops around town and tested every wah pedal they had. I had originally leaned towards an autowah ruled those out quickly because of the lack of control over the sound. Eventually I settled on the Dunlops. They were all good but the original didn't quite do it and the Slash wah had to much other stuff on it. I had a good amp and distortion pedal so all I needed was a good wah pedal. Then I tried the Fasel. The heavens opened, angels sang, and doves flew overhead dopping pure gold guitar picks all across the land. But back in the store I'd found my pedal. It has such a perfect vintage sound and a really broad expression range. The tone didn't have dead spots at all when the pedal was rocked back and forth like I noticed with a few other pedals. The Crybaby w/ Fasel is my favorite pedal and I use it in almost every song. It's great, when you pair it with heavy distortion you can get real hard rock metal screams and when using a clean amp and a little palm muting you can play all the old funk music. You know...the giggity-giggity kind. Great pedal. Perfect sound. 5/5

Unwanted Volume Boost
I've had a good 3 Cry Babys in the past, and I've been happy with all 3. But this Fasel feature attracted my attention, so I went back to the store to exchange my "Classic" for the Fasel hours after the initial purchase, as I realized the latter was available. Construction quality and clarity of sound were noticeable right away. But also an unwanted boost in volume came on the moment I kicked it on. The increase was dry, not really a "gain" with some grit, but just a louder volume that would throw off all my previous settings. The sound just got too loud in an unpleasant way, and I couldn't find any alternative gain/volume settings in the chain to compensate for this and avoid drowning other instruments in the band or mix. Maybe a volume control would be perfect for this otherwise beautiful sounding legend. Sometimes I want less volume for a sound already enhanced by gain based pedals.

Simply didn't have the wah tone I was looking for. There was an additional harmonic that simply didn't work for me.

Which Wah Pedal is most equivalent to the Crybaby sold/manufactured in the 1970s?
The Dunlop original crybaby would be the closest one.
