Digitech Drop Pedal - Demo

DigiTech

collapse expand iconDescription

The Drop polyphonic drop tune pitch shifter guitar effects pedal from DigiTech is a revolutionary pedal that provides guitarists an innovative way to drop their tuning without actually adjusting their guitar's tuning pegs. The Drop uses an advanced polyphonic drop tune algorithm to allow players to drop their pitch from one semitone all the way down to a full octave. You can now achieve a lower, chunkier tone instantly at the stomp of a footswitch instead of having to tune down between songs.

Drop Your Pitch, Not Your Action

With the Drop, you no longer have to sacrifice playability and string tension for lower tunings. The Drop provides drop tune settings from 1 to 7 semitones (half steps) down plus additional settings for one octave down with or without the dry signal. This allows for dropped tunings as low as Drop C or even Drop A without installing heavier gauge strings that can make playing more difficult. The Drop uses an advanced pitch detection algorithm to provide polyphonic drop tuning for all six strings at once while preserving the original guitar tone as much as possible.

Performance Pedal Capabilities

In addition to standard latching operation, The Drop also features a mini toggle switch to select either latching or momentary mode. In momentary mode, the footswitch acts as a "tap" switch, enabling the drop tune effect only while the footswitch is pressed. This performance pedal-like functionality allows for trills, pitch dips and other effects not possible with a standard latching footswitch. Creative guitarists can utilize the Drop's momentary mode and expression pedal input for even more innovative pitch modulations and effects.

High-Quality Design

The Drop was designed with your needs in mind, from its intuitive user interface to its high quality components. The Drop features an easy to read LED display, knobs for effect level and selector and rugged metal footswitches and chassis. It also includes true-bypass circuitry to maintain signal integrity and tone when the effect is not engaged. For power, the Drop requires a 9V DC power supply, which is included.

No Drop Out

On a whim I decided to order this pedal even though I was concerned with some of the negative feedback I read regarding latency. When I received the pedal I tested the latency myself and I could find little to no gap audible to me. Perhaps if you have other pedals in front or behind this pedal, it could effect the latency more, but this is the only pedal I run in front of my EVH 5150 III, and it works very well. Although I considered giving this product 5 stars, I knocked a star because with my amp and pickups (Duncan Distortions) the best representation of the dropped tones were at 5 semitones. Perhaps with a different amp or pickups one could utilize the full octave, but with my current setup it didn't sound as natural after 5 semitones. In the end I am very happy not having to own more than 2 electric guitars now as a result of owning this pedal so that I may be able to play a plethora of songs that aren't restricted to open or lower drop tunings than Drop D. Bravo Digitech!

1 star quality, 5 star utility

I play electric bass and prefer E standard tuning. When our vocalist wants to sing a song a half or full pitch lower, I simply push a button and we're there. No more keeping 2 or even 3 basses on stage. However, the further away you get from your base tuning, the more distorted and artificial the sound becomes. The other review said 5 semitones. I'd say 3 ( I agree, no latency issues). More problemmatic, on very high notes it gives two distinct non-harmonic pitches simultaneously. I first noticed it on high notes on the G string on my bass. Then I ran both an acoustic guitar and an electric guitar through it just to check the sound and it was pure dischord...unplayable. I play in two bands, a 5 piece band that does classic pop/rock covers, and a trio (guitar, vocal, me) that does jazz, R&B, and soul. The "Drop" is great for practice in both bands. I don't have to haul multiple basses to cramped practice space with bad acoustics. On stage, I use the Drop in the pop/rock band. About 20% of our songs require downtuning to E flat or D standard, but the through the mix in a noisy environment the slight reduction in sound quality isn't noticeable. Beats switching basses and breaking up the flow of the sets. For the other group where my sound is much more distinguishable and the venues are more laid back and less noisy, I use multiple basses. I want a pure sound.

This worked perfectly for five minutes. I easily dropped to Eb with zero latency (and only minimal additional hiss). Five minutes later I was getting both tones (original pitch and dropped pitch together). Could be that mine is just a bad unit, so I will take it in and swap it for another one.

  • Excellent product. High quality.

I bought this pedal so that I can effortlessly drop a half step to play in E flat. The pedal is extremely easy to use. It has hight quality feel. It is a bit expensive for a one trick pony but worth it. Not having to keep a dedicated guitar in E flat is super convenient.

I bought this for easy downtune to Eb or another key for gigs. I only gig a few times a year, but this is a great tool for playing in a band. It's more of a tool to use than a pedal for a sound.

This is an incredible guitar pedal. It literally drops the tone in increments of half steps. It works exactly as described. The only problem is it doesn't work well on acoustic because there Is a certain level of volume coming off the instrument naturally, and mentally it conflicts with the ear

Will the pedal work if let's say I'm in E standard and want to tune it down to D standard. Will this pedal work for standard tunings or is this pedal strictly for drop tuning?

My Strat sounds different when I down tune a half a step from standard tuning manually and when I use the pedal to down tune a half a step. Am I doing something wrong?

Using this pedal, could I make my tuning go from E to any lower tuning I wanted? And can I toggle it so that I may keep a lower tuning without changing the actual tuning on my guitar?

2 of these connected would create a muddy sound that would not capture the essence of a bass guitar.
