collapse expand iconDescription

The Cloudlifter CL-1 Mic Activator is a pioneering piece of gear designed to solve common issues faced by home studio owners and audio engineers. This innovative DI box and mic preamp activator boosts your microphone's signal by up to 25dB without passing phantom power to the mic itself. Guitar Center is thrilled to offer the Cloudlifter CL-1, which uses discreet JFET circuitry to provide completely transparent gain, enabling you to hear the natural tone of your mic like never before.

Unparalleled Control Over Your Tone

The Cloudlifter CL-1's variable input impedance, adjustable from 150 ohms to 15,000 ohms, gives you an incredible amount of control over your mic's tone. Dial in the perfect amount of high-end sparkle or midrange warmth to suit your needs. Creating custom EQ curves for each mic in your collection has never been easier.

Ultra-Quiet Performance

With up to 25dB of gain on tap, the Cloudlifter CL-1 eliminates the need to push your preamp to noisy levels. Its discrete JFET design adds gain without adding noise or distortion, allowing even budget preamps to sound high-end. Long cable runs won't sap your signal, either, thanks to the CL-1's line-driving output stage.

Ribbon Mic Ready

The Cloudlifter CL-1 was created with ribbon mics in mind. Its phantom-powered circuit provides more than enough gain and proper impedance loading for ribbons, allowing them to sound their best even when connected to an underpowered preamp. If you own a ribbon mic, the CL-1 is an essential companion.

Compatible With All Your Gear

In addition to ribbon mics, the Cloudlifter CL-1 works with dynamic mics, condenser mics, tube mics and any other mic that requires lots of clean gain. You can use it with any standard mic preamp, mixer or audio interface to improve sound quality and gain extra headroom.

The little problem solver

This is the answer for anyone with a low output passive ribbon mic or a dynamic mic that they would just love to use in a studio environment but can't because of the low output. Many passive ribbons and dynamics simply don't have the output to achieve a quiet sound floor. They may sound great and color the recording the way you like but can't be used because of their low output. The CL 1 solves the problem by simply allowing phantom power to boost the signal but also protecting the (ribbon) mic from damage. I have been getting excellent results with passive ribbons and dynamic mics when a condenser mic just won't color the sound in a complementary way. This brings wider choice back to recording session...and for that I am grateful.

Don't waste your money on this.

Doesn't do much. Don't waste your money. I have no idea how there are so many positive reviews of this overpriced nonsense. Used it with an SM7b and there is no noticeable difference. Buy another microphone instead of this. It's louder sure but I can also turn up the gain..

Some mics require an extra boost. This is the simple to use inline device that solves that issue. It's plug and play.

  • It just puts your mic "in the pocket".

I use this with my shure sm7b. Made a HUGE difference..Sound quality through it is great, and the power increase is dramatic. Definitely recommend buying this if you have a dynamic mic, it's worth it.

  • Great addition to my MIC!

We run the SURE SM7DB microphones into the SHURE SM410 Mixer but things still don't sound as clean, would this increase our audio quality on this mic without us blasting the gain?

If your not getting a clean signal, boosting the gain won't solve it.

I will be using an AKG P120 and SM7b mic running through a Presonus iTWO interface. The interface has a 48v boost so is it really necessary to put one of these in the chain?

The SM7b is a dynamic mic. The 48v boost is for phantom power - condenser mics.

Will this work with condenser microphones. I have an MXL V67G large capsule condenser mic and it's record level thru small mixer and digital recorder seems weak. It claims to have a built in preamp.

Not well. It's designed for Ribbon Mics. Check out the "Art Tube MP Project Series Tube Microphone/Instrument Preamp"
